Drum roll, please. In August, we launched our first Google Impact Challenge in India, inviting Indian non-profits to tell us how they would change the world using technology. The reward? A total of Rs. 12 crore for the four best ideas throughout India. Today, we’re unveiling the top 10 finalists of the Challenge, and asking the public to cast their votes for which nonprofit should receive a Rs. 3 crore Global Impact Award at g.co/indiachallenge.
A team of hundreds of Googlers spent days and nights reviewing thousands of applications, and hand-picked the best nonprofit projects from the bunch. The top 10 projects secured a spot on the honor roll for their innovative thinking, potential for scale and Googley approach.
The finalists are: Agastya, Breakthrough, Chintan Environmental Research & Action Group, Digital Green Trust, Going to School Fund, Janaagraha Centre for Citizenship & Democracy, Pratham Books, Prayas Energy Group, Shelter Associates and Social Awareness, Newer Alternatives. Take a look for yourself and see their proposed projects here.
On October 31, the 10 finalists will join me in Delhi to pitch their projects and answer questioning for a chance to grab one of three additional Rs. 3 crore Global Impact Awards. I’ll be joined on the judging panel with Google board member Ram Shriram, Social Worker and former Chairperson Thermax Anu Aga, and Omidyar Network India Advisors’s Managing Director Jayant Sinha and Google Director of Giving Jacquelline Fuller.
We’ll make our selections directly at the event and we’ll also reveal the winner of the public vote at that time. You can tune into a livestream here to watch it live.
In the meantime, don’t forget to cast your vote. The ballot box closes on Wednesday, 30 October, 2013.
